The long-awaited re-opening of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame’s museum in downtown Springfield is only days away, marking a defining moment in the organization’s history and a powerful return for one of the state’s most treasured institutions.
Located adjacent to the Hall’s new downtown headquarters at 431 W. Walnut St., the reimagined museum offers a more focused and engaging experience while continuing to honor the rich legacy of sports across Missouri. Though smaller in size, the new space is intentionally designed to deliver a deeper, more personal connection to the stories, achievements, and individuals who have shaped the state’s sports history. It will open on Aug. 12, with weekday hours from 10 AM to 5 PM.
“This moment represents resilience,” said Rob Marsh, President and CEO of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. “There were challenges, there were uncertainties, but there was never a moment where we lost sight of the mission. This museum is a reflection of that commitment to preserve these stories and to ensure they continue to inspire future generations.”
The museum will feature rotating exhibits that evolve throughout the year, providing visitors with a dynamic experience that reflects the ever-changing landscape of sports. From legendary athletes and championship teams to unforgettable moments, the space captures some of the greatest memories in Missouri sports history, now brought back to life in a way that is more accessible and engaging than ever before.
“This is an important step forward for the Hall of Fame,” said Dan Nelson, Chairman of the Board. “We are proud to see the museum return in a way that strengthens our connection to the community while honoring the legacy that has made this organization so meaningful to so many.”
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame previously was located in southeast Springfield from 1994 until October 2025. The museum had been closed for renovations since 2021 before expected rising costs led the Hall of Fame’s board to vote to relocate to a new facility.
The reopening of the museum signals more than a return. It marks the beginning of a new era for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, one focused on sustainability, accessibility, and continued impact across the state.
