Widely known as one of Missouri’s most storied sports officials, Jack Fette’s officiating career began in 1947 when he worked as a baseball umpire at the “Class D” professional level. He advanced to the American Association in 1950 as the youngest umpire in the league. His career seemed to be secured as a Major League umpire but he had subsequently accepted a position with Wilson Sporting Goods and committed to staying with the company rather than pursue his umpiring career.

Later, he began working amateur baseball, basketball and football in Missouri. During his career, he served as a high school, college and professional baseball, basketball and football official. Fette called numerous games in the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference, Missouri Valley Conference and MIAA. He spent the last 23 years of his illustrious career as a line judge in the NFL, where he worked 5 Super Bowls along with 16 other playoff games.
