“Your actions mean much more than your words.” - Ewing Kauffman

The strength and integrity of Ewing Kauffman’s ownership was the cornerstone of success for the Kansas City Royals during the club’s first quarter century.

Since purchasing the Royals as an expansion franchise in 1968, Kauffman’s primary and continuous motivation was to provide winning Major League Baseball. Under Kauffman, the Royals developed into one of baseball’s most respected and successful franchises. In their 25-year history, the Royals have won six American League Western Division Championships, two American League Pennants, and a World Series Championship. Despite playing in baseball’s smallest market, the Royals have drawn over two million fans in home attendance 11 times, figuring to be 165 percent of the Kansas City area population. Kauffman sponsored the formation of the Royal Lancers, a group of businessmen and women who have consistently kept Kansas City as a league leader in season ticket sales.

On July 2, 1993, Ewing Kauffman was inducted into the Royals’ Hall of Fame and the stadium’s name was changed from Royals Stadium to Kauffman Stadium.
