Known as “The Mad Hungarian” during his professional baseball career, Al Hrabosky is one of the most recognized and respected Missouri sports personalities. The #1 draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1969 draft, Hrabosky was promoted to the major leagues one year later. He played for the Cardinals through the 1977 season, appearing in 329 games. He posted a 40-20 record for the Redbirds and enjoyed his best season in 1975 when he finished with a 13-3 record, 1.67 ERA and 22 saves en route to winning The Sporting News National League Fireman of the Year. Hrabosky was traded across the state to Kansas City after the 1977 season, where he was a member of the 1978 American League Western Division championship team. Hrabosky jumped back to the National League to finish his career with the Atlanta Braves from 1980-1982.
