Bill Althaus, a longtime sports writer in Independence, will be inducted with the Class of 2025 at the Kansas City Enshrinement presented by Great Southern Bank.

A 1972 graduate of Truman High School and 1976 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Althaus has been a sports writer and in sports media for more than 40 years. He primarily was at the Independence Examiner newspaper from 1982 to 2015 as its columnist and sports writer, covering prep sports as well as the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Althaus is a lifetime member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and past Kansas City chapter BBWAA president. Among his numerous awards have been the 1987 UPI Midwest Columnist of the Year, 1990 UPI Midwest Columnist of the Year, 2002 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Feature Writer of the Year, 2006 Simone Award/Gordon Docking Media Personality of the Year (first print member to be honored, second overall winner of the award), 2008 Top Sports Page in USA awarded by Associated Press Managing Editors, 2008 Gatehouse Media Award of Excellence, 2009 Gatehouse Media Award of Excellence, 2009 Central Hockey League Media Service Award, 2009 Missouri Broadcasters Association Public Service Host honoree, 2010 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Feature Writer of the Year, 2011 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Columnist of the Year, 2012 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Columnist of the Year, 2012 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Feature Writer of the Year and the 2012 Missouri Press Association Class 1 Special Section honoree.
