Mo Moorman was born and raised in Louisville, KY. During his senior year at Xavier High School in 1963, Moorman led his team to the Kentucky State Championship and was named to the All-State and All-South teams, along with being named an All-American.

He started his collegiate play at the University of Kentucky but transferred to Texas A & M University. As an Aggie, he was an All-Southwest Conference selection and also garnered All-American honors in 1966. He was a first round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1968. Known for his second effort on the field and exceptional quickness for his size, Moorman started at right guard for the Chiefs during his entire career and he helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl IV in 1969.
