One day after spotting the event on social media, an Ozark duo won the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame’s Inaugural Bass Fishing Classic presented by SRC and SMC Packaging.
The event, held at Table Rock Lake on Saturday, drew 52 boats of mostly two-person teams that launched from State Park Marina just south of Branson.
Brennan Banks and Peyton Strumpf walked away with $3,500 in prize money after hauling in five fish that weighed 16 pounds, 3 ounces.
After spotting the event on Facebook on Friday, “I hit up Rick Emmitt (MSHOF 2021) and asked, ‘Do you know anything about this?” Banks said.
Banks and Strumpf have been fishing together for 14 years and, on Saturday, set out at 7:30 a.m. and stayed within two miles of the marina. They caught their limit by 10 a.m., culling once.
“This is awesome,” Strumpf said. “My wife will be happy.”
Overall, 110 fish were weighed in. Twelve of 52 entries weighed in a full bag of five fish.
Call it a great day for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, who added the event to the calendar this past spring.
The idea had been floated for the past few years and came to life in a late January meeting between CEO & Executive Director Jerald Andrews and Executive Vice President Marty Willadsen, an avid angler and hunter.

Second place – Chris Selsor & Myron Dixon (14.51): $1,555
Third place – Ryan Crouser & Andy Glidewell (14.46): $1,100
Fourth place – Blaine Cox & Keegan Barber (14.1): $725
Fifth place – Robert Lloyd & Mike Lucas (13.55): $400
Big bass — 5.75 pounds, went to Randy Emerson, who took home $500 in Favorite Fishing tackle.
