Tiger Ball & Scholarship Auction, MU Alumni Golf set for Thursday, Friday

University of Missouri-bound southwest Missouri high school graduates will be the big winners Thursday and Friday as the Greater Ozarks Chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association hosts a two-day scholarship fundraiser in Springfield.

The Tiger Ball & Scholarship Auction presented by Meyer Farms and Meyer Communications is at 6 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton on north Glenstone Avenue. The event features silent and live auctions (register at bidpal.net/mutigerball2019). Up for bid are numerous women’s beauty products and several tropical getaways along with sports items such as St. Louis Cardinals tickets and a TaylorMade M-5 Driver, the kind used by Tiger Woods during his recent Master’s victory.

On Friday, the MU Alumni Golf Classic presented by Great Southern Bank has 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. rounds at Millwood Golf & Racquet Club. Call 417-889-3100 to sign up.

The event has gifted $172,000 to Mizzou-bound students in the past eight years alone.

“We invite everyone connected to Mizzou to turn out and help us help students from southwest Missouri chase their dreams,” said Andy Stewart, Chairman of the Golf Tournament Committee for the Greater Ozarks Chapter. “Our Greater Ozarks Chapter has spent months planning this, and it has truly made a great impact over the years. The thank-you letters from Mizzou students alone show us these events have a tremendous impact.”

Tables of eight for the Tiger Ball are $300, or $40 for an individual.

The auction also features golf packages to The Club at Porto Cima and Old Kinderhook, a 2019 Ice Bear Vision Scooter, a necklace from Kay Jewelers and gift certificates to local restaurants as well as Andy B’s. The getaways include tropical vacations to several luxurious Mexico beaches as well as a three-night stay at Water Mill Cove, which is only two miles from Silver Dollar City.

Another package includes the Mizzou Homecoming Parade, which covers a two-night hotel stay, four reserved seating game tickets to the Mizzou-Ole Miss game on Oct. 12 and the winning bidder taking part in the actual homecoming parade.

The golf tournament is $750 for a foursome, with morning rounds available, and includes four tickets to the Tiger Ball. Golfers receive a Mizzou-logoed pullover, continental breakfast, lunch, on-course beverages and snacks, with trophies in several divisions.
