Missouri Sports Hall of Fame announces strategic relocation plans for Springfield museum

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame today announced that it is actively pursuing the relocation of its museum to a more centrally located site within Springfield, Missouri. It’s an initiative that reflects the Hall of Fame’s commitment to ensuring long-term growth, increased accessibility, and enhanced visitor experience.

Since opening its doors in 1994, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame has honored the state’s most accomplished athletes, coaches, and contributors while serving as a steward of the state’s rich sporting heritage. Relocating to central Springfield represents a strategic step forward, positioning the museum to better serve residents, visitors, and partners throughout the state.

“Relocation presents an opportunity not only to expand our footprint, but also to strengthen our ability to engage with the public, broaden our educational programming, and deliver a more dynamic and accessible museum experience,” said President/CEO Rob Marsh of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. “This effort underscores our dedication to preserving Missouri’s sports legacy while positioning the Hall of Fame for future growth and sustainability.”

The Hall of Fame building in southeast Springfield has been sold, and the staff and a museum will be located in temporary downtown facility, at 431 & 433 W. Walnut St.

For a permanent home, the organization is evaluating multiple site options and wishes to work closely with community leaders, civic partners, and stakeholders to identify a location that maximizes visibility and accessibility. The future facility will provide expanded exhibit space, modern amenities, and the capacity to host special events, educational initiatives, and broader community engagement opportunities.

Additional details regarding the relocation, including timeline and site selection, will be announced as plans are finalized.
