Herman Keiser was born in Springfield, MO in 1914. He started caddying when he was 10. In his amateur days in Missouri, he won every event he entered except one. In 1940, he became a professional and moved to Akron, Ohio. After one year, he was hired by Firestone Country Club and they sponsored him on the tour.

In 1942, Keiser won the Miami International with Chandler Harper. His greatest moment in his career came with winning the 1946 Masters. He led the entire tournament and beat Ben Hogan by one stroke.

His tour career included winning 7 other tournaments and being a member of the 1947 Ryder Cup Team.
