Dr. Paul Meyer was an orthopedic surgeon and team physician for the Kansas City Athletics and the Kansas City Royals. He also was a clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. He authored, or co-authored, several publications about various subjects in orthopedics, including one entitled “Baseball Shoulders.”

Meyer was a native of the Kansas City area and graduated from Paseo High School before earning a degree at Kansas City University and later completing his M.D. at the University of Kansas Medical School. He was a World War II veteran and maintained a private practice, Dickson Dively Orthopedic Clinic, where he was a partner. Meyer was also Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Chief of Staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

Besides his induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1985, he was also honored by the Royals’ Lancers and Sportswriters of Kansas City, when they voted him “Mr. Baseball.”
