Dennis Leonard was born in Brooklyn, New York and was a standout baseball player at Oceanside High School. He attended Iona College before being selected in the 1972 summer draft by the Kansas City Royals. Leonard enjoyed a twelve year Major League career with the Kansas City Royals. During his first full season with the Royals in 1975, Leonard quickly emerged as one of the team’s best young pitchers as he won 15 games and helped the club win 91 games. The following year, Leonard again turned in a solid season winning 17 games. The first of Leonard’s three 20 win seasons came in 1977. Leonard remained solid throughout the early ’80’s and again was a major contributor to the Royals’ World Series Championship team of 1985. His overall record is 144-106 and a solid 3.70 ERA
