Inductees

Boyd King, who attended the Hannibal Public Schools, won 11 letters in football, basketball, and baseball at Truman State University and later returned as a successful basketball coach.

He was captain of the 1936 baseball team. After graduation, he coached at Pittsfield, Illinois, and Hannibal. During World War II, he served as an ensign in the V-5 program as an assistant basketball coach at the University of North Carolina, and the pre-flight and head coach at the U. S. Naval School Virginia.

Boyd was appointed head basketball coach at the university and coached the Bulldogs for 25 years until his retirement at the end of the 1970-71 season. His teams compiled a cumulative record of 380-199 and were conference champions seven times. Five of his squads participated in MAIA or MCAA College-Division post-season playoffs. Two of his players were first-team All-Americans and one performer, Harry Gallatin, was a professional basketball player and coach. In 1970-71, Coach King was named College-Division District Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was also a recipient of a merit award for distinguished services from that association. Boyd continued to teach in the Division of Health and Physical Education until his retirement in 1977.
