Whenever Advertising Plus owner Marc Kiser is on a golf course, he’s usually smiling.
Well, he certainly was trying to kill a grin Monday afternoon, downplaying an incredible shot in our Lake of the Ozarks Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Missouri Eagle.
Kiser aced the No. 3 hole at scenic Club at Porto Cima, the only Jack Nicklaus-designed waterfront course in Missouri, and did so on literally his first shot of the day. You see, Kiser arrived to the course and decided not to even bother hitting the driving range. So he hopped in his cart with his team after lunch and cruised out to No. 3.
That’s where Kiser picked out a 9-iron and promptly hit a 151-yard shot that landed in the hole. Not that Kiser or others knew about it. Because the hole slopes down and the pin was placed out of sight just beyond an embankment, those on the scene — including MSHOF Executive Vice President Marty Willadsen — couldn’t determine where it ended up.
Turned out, after Kiser wheeled down to the green and looked for the ball, he found it — in the hole.
“It was great,” Willadsen said. “He bent down, picked it up and gave me a thumbs up when he looked back.”
What a shot it was. In fact, it was Kiser’s eighth hole in one in his life, his first since last year at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, and his first in several trips to Porto Cima.
