Harold “Red” Weir was raised in Fayette, Missouri, and was a member of the 1950 Central College basketball team that finished third in the NAIS national tournament.

He became a high school coach in Stockton and Eldon, officiating when his team was not playing. Weir joined Snowden-Mize Sporting Goods Co., came to Columbia in the late 1950s, and opened his own store in 1960.

Weir became one of the most respected football and basketball officials in the Midwest, but basketball was his favorite. He spent a dozen years at the National Junior College Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, then worked briefly in the Big 8 and for decades in the MIAA, MCAU and the Heart of America Conferences until he died in 1991.
