Inductees

May 23, 1888—March 11, 1972

One of the best Missouri-born big league ball players ever, Zachariah Wheat, known as “Buck”, earned national Hall of Fame recognition a year after being tapped for state induction at Sedalia.

Born in Hamilton in 1888, Zach moved to Brooklyn in 1909 and quickly became the teammate of Casey Stengel. The right-handed throwing, lefthanded-hitting outfielder batted .304 in his first season then posted 12 more seasons over .300 in a 19-year career through 1927. Wheat played in the 1916 and 1920 World Series for Brooklyn then finished his career in the American League with the Philadelphia Athletics.
