Originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1993, Trent Green became a NFL starter in 1998 with the Washington Redskins. The following year he signed a four year contract with the St. Louis Rams. After a season ending injury in a pre-season game, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2003, Green had his breakout year, throwing for 4,039 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He led the Chiefs to a 13-3 record and a first round bye in the playoffs. He was selected to his first Pro Bowl that same year.
