In 1960 the Dallas Texans, who became the Kansas City Chiefs in 1963, chose him as the No. 1 draft choice. A Kansas City Chief until 1972, Robinson excelled as both a halfback and safety. Robinson was named to the AFL’s All-Time team by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a safety and was the third leading interceptor in AFL history with 43. His 57 career interceptions rank second in the Kansas City Chiefs history.

He was inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Louisana Sports Hall of Fame in 1984.
