Jim Kearney was a standout quarterback at Wharton High School in Texas and attended Prairie View A&M. Kearney’s successful collegiate career paved the way for him to be drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1965. He played in the Motor City for two seasons and then jumped north of the border to play with Montreal of the CFL. After a one week stay in Canada, Kearney was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles during the 1967 preseason. He started in the defensive secondary throughout the preseason but was placed on waivers. He caught the eye of Hall of Famer Hank Stram and Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for nine seasons. Kearney was durable and never missed a game during his career with the Chiefs. He grabbed 23 career interceptions and five career fumbles, en route to scoring five touchdowns.
