Jerry Buescher began his journey to the 800-win mark during the 1960’s in Vandalia, Mo.  Before that, he played basketball in college for northeast Missouri native Cotton Fitzsimmons at Moberly Area Community College. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University and earned a master’s at the University of Missouri.

Buescher has won 12 district championships and two state titles. After leaving Van-Far in the late ‘60’s, Buescher took over a 1-26 Owenvsille program. Six seasons later, he led his squad to the Class 3-A state title with a 30-1 record. In 1978, he took over the Republic job and finished Class 3-A state runner-up in 1980. Two years later, he led Springfield Catholic to a Class 1-A state crown with a 28-4 record. He entered his stint with South Callaway with a career record of 353-132 and left with two district titles and just 18 wins from the 600-win mark. Buescher retired from teaching at South Callaway in 1997 but the district wanted their coach to also be a full-time teacher. So he left South Callaway to lead New Bloomfield to two district final appearances before taking over at Linn. In just one season, he led that program to a fourth-place finish in Class 2-A with a 23-9 record. Since the 2000 season, Buescher has been the head coach for Jefferson City Helias High School.
