Inductees

Gil Rector was born in Herman, MO and graduated from Higginsville High School in 1959. His first coaching job was in Carrollton, MO as an assistant to his former high school coach, Cliff Cromer. In the spring of 1968, Gil accepted the head coaching position at Lexington, where he completed his student teaching. In 1973, Gil won his first of ten Missouri River Valley Conference championships. His 1976 team went 12-0 and was his first state championship team. Gil’s teams won four more state titles in Class 2A and 3A – 1980, 1984, 1988 ad 1995.

Coach Rector culminated 31 years coaching with 231 wins and a 72 percent winning percentage. His Minutemen won 10 conference, 13 district and five state titles. His record in the state playoffs was 22-8-2 and he was undefeated in his teams’ five state title games. Gil was inducted into the Missouri High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
