Every person who has been associated with the St. Louis Cardinals organization during the past 63 years has had contact with George Kissell. One of the most respected people in the game of baseball at any level, Kissell is often referred to as “baseball’s grandfather” by St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. Kissell’s 63 year tenure with the club is the longest tenure by an employee of any Major League team.

He spent 10 years in the minor leagues as an outfielder and has served the Cardinals in several capacities since joining the organization in 1940. From 1946 to 1968, he worked as a manager, coach, scout and minor league instructor. Kissell was a Cardinals’ coach from 1969 to 1975.
