Dr. Edward Addison “Doc” Porter was a lifelong resident of the Hannibal, Missouri area and a sports enthusiast. While still pursuing his degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Porter was a student physician for the athletic teams of Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. While in that capacity, he became friends with Don Faurot.

Porter opened his practice in Hannibal in 1935 and remained active until he retired in 1992.

Because of his friendship with Don Faurot and Dan Devine, he was a long-time supporter of the University of Missouri Athletic Program. He was an original member of the Press Box Lounge at the university and was honored by being made a member of the University of Missouri Jefferson Club. In 1999, Dr. Porter was honored as being one of  10 people who had not missed a home football game for 60 consecutive years.

Dr. Porter served as a team physician for the Hannibal public school system and was instrumental in establishing scholarships for local students, as well as contributing to improvements to the local high school football stadium.

In 1988 he was inducted into the Missouri Trainers Hall of Fame in Columbia and was awarded the MAHAA Distinguished Award for this service to the Missouri High School Interscholastic Activities. In 1987, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inducted him for his contributions to sports medicine.
