Derland Moore was born in October 7, 1951 in Malden, MO. He attended Poplar Bluff High School and played varsity football for three years, 1966-1968. In addition to football, he competed in track, throwing the shot and discus. He was offered a track scholarship to the University of Oklahoma but he was a football player at heart. He took the scholarship offer and tried out for the Sooners football team as a walk-on. Not only did he make the freshman team, he went on to start every game as a defensive tackle. He was a second round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints and went on to become one of the greatest Saints players ever.
