"No one comes into our house and pushes us around." - Dan Devine.

Dan Devine gained legendary status as the coach of the University of Missouri Tigers football team during its most successful period in the history of the school. Devine took the Tigers to six bowl games, winning four of them. In national polls, Devine’s Tigers ranked consistently high, with the 1960 Tiger team ranking fifth and the 1965 and 1969 Tigers ranking sixth nationally.

Devine also made a significant impact at the University of Missouri as the Director of Athletics. In this role, Devine put into place plans for the construction of Hearnes Center, the construction of a new press box at Memorial Stadium, and hired Norm Stewart to resurrect what was then a lackluster men’s basketball program.

Devine had a tremendous influence on sports outside of Missouri. In 1971, he became coach and general manager of the Green Bay Packers, for which he was named the NFL “Coach of the Year” in 1972. Devine then moved on as head coach at Notre Dame in 1975 and took the Fighting Irish to the National Championship in 1977. During six years at Notre Dame, he had a record of 53-16.
