The lone 2006 inductee to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Sutter was among the game’s top relief pitchers in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Sutter led the NL in saves five times and ranks 20th on the all-time saves list. Posting a 2.84 ERA with the Cubs, Cardinals and Braves, he finished in the top 10 of the NL MVP voting five times. In six post season games, Bruce was 2-0 with three saves and a 3.00 ERA. Sutter saved at least 20 games in nine consecutive seasons and was the NL Cy Young Award winner in 1979. He set an NL mark with 45 saves in 1984.
