The 1959 Parkview Tastemark team became Missouri’s American Legion Junior Baseball Champion in only its third year of competition. This Cinderella contender, led by Missouri Sports Hall of Fame coach Dick Birmingham, went on to defeat the state champions from Iowa and Kansas before falling to an Oklahoma team in the four state Regional Tournament. Parkview won two critical games in district competition and in the state tournament with late inning rallies, having trailed each contest 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth. The team repeated its successful season in 1960 by winning the district and Western Zone tournaments before losing the state championship to the Eastern Zone finalist from St. Louis.
