As an athlete at the University of Missouri, Ross excelled in both basketball and baseball. Following graduation, and after a successful tenure as a high school basketball coach, Bill became instrumental in the development and implementation of the Intercollegiate Athletics program at UMKC. In the development of the program, he began the men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as the golf program at the university. Ross made a significant impact in UMKC’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division I athletics in 1987. He also coached the men’s golf team for 35 years.
