Willie Wilson became the Kansas City Royals first prime-time leadoff hitting threat in club history. The fleet footed outfielder was a first round draft choice for the Royals in 1974 and reached the big leagues in 1976. He hit over .300 for four consecutive seasons from 1979-82 and stole more than 30 bases in 11 consecutive seasons, including a league leading 83 in 1979, still a Royals record. In 1980, Wilson became only the second player in baseball history to stroke 100 hits from each side of the plate while collecting a league leading 230 hits. He earned a Rawling’s Gold Glove Award in 1980 and also set a major league record with 705 at-bats.

Through 1999, Wilson ranked among the Royals all-time top 10 in career games, at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, RBI’s, batting average, walks and stolen bases.
