John Earl Chase spent over forty years in public education coaching, primarily at Branson High School in basketball, football, track and baseball. He began his career in 1939 at Branson High School as an assitant basketball coach and head football coach where he introduced 6 man football to the school.

In 1948, he re-entered coaching at the School of the Ozarks High School in Point Lookout as head basketball and track coach. He returned to Branson High School as head basketball, track and baseball coach in 1950. In his eight years as head basketball coach, his teams compiled an amazing record of 248 wins with only 48 losses, advanced to the State Tournament four times, winning fourth place in 1952, winning the championship with a perfect 41-0 record in 1954, losing in the second round in 1957 and winning again in 1958 with a 36-1 record.
