Inductees

August 8, 1909—May 15, 2005

A Westminster College record that will stand the test of time involves the Barrow Brothers from New Bloomfield, Missouri. Five of the six sons attended Westminster.

Each was named to the Dean’s List and earned a combined 32 varsity letters during a 17-year stretch when at least one son was enrolled at the College. In addition to their professional accomplishments, they formed one of the best basketball teams in Missouri during the 1930s.

In 1992 the Barrow Brothers, Cave (Class of 1930) Harold (Class of 1936), Ray (Class of 1940), Finis (Class of 1943), and younger brother John were inducted into the Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame. It was the first time a group of brothers were inducted together.

After graduating in 1936, Harold earned his M.A. from the University of Missouri in 1942 and then a P.E.D. from Indiana University in 1953. He was a high school coach and director of physical education in Fulton, Missouri from 1936 to 1943, then served two years as a specialist in physical education in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. After World War II, Harold taught physical education at Wake Forest College from 1948 to 1977. During this time, he authored numerous articles and books about health and physical education.

In addition to his athletic talents, Harold had an artistic side; he taught himself to play the organ.
