A long-time resident of Kansas City, Hank Bauer spent more than 18 years as an outstanding outfielder in the American League, predominantly with the New York Yankees. He joined the Kansas City Athletics in 1959 and was named the team’s manager in 1961. In 1963, Bauer joined the Baltimore Orioles as manager, leading them to the World Series title in 1966.

Bauer, nicknamed “Mr. October” because of his numerous trips to the World Series, ended his playing career with a .277 lifetime average, playing in 1,544 major league games and in 9 World Series.
