Inductees

Floyd Irons is a 1966 graduate of Vashon High School in St. Louis. During his prep years, he was an excellent student-athlete, Irons holds the prestigious honor of being the first scholar-athlete selected from Vashon High School by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as the scholar-athlete of the year.

Upon graduation from Langston University in Oklahoma, he returned to his roots and was hired at Vashon High School to teach social studies. He was later named assistant principal at the school and has also served as principal and head basketball coach. Under Irons’ tutelage, the 1983 Wolverines’ squad went to the state tournament and won the coach’s first state title. In the ensuing years, his teams won the 1984, ’85, ’86, ’88 and 1989 state championships. Vashon returned to state in 1999 and accomplished a three-peat, with state crowns coming in 2000 and 2001.
