Inductees

December 5, 1925—June 8, 2020

Dr. Stan London began working with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1956 and then became the head physician in 1968, after the death of I.C. Middleman. He remained in this position until 1997 when he became senior medical advisor for the team. He was also the team physician for the St. Louis Hawks from 1955 to 1968.

Known as “Uncanny Stanley,” London was quite an amateur athlete. His performances in handball, baseball, and basketball earned him induction into the Missouri Handball Hall of Fame, the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame, the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame, and the Washington University Hall of Fame. Before his career as a team physician, he earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. In 1948-1949, he coached Washington University’s basketball team, and in 1949, their baseball team. He then served as a physician in the Navy in the early 1950s.

Aside from London’s work with the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Hawks, he had a private practice, Parkcrest Surgical which he opened in 1954 with fellow orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ken Bennett. He also worked with local clinics that served the indigent population of St. Louis before retiring in January 2020, less than six months before his passing.
