Hall mourns recent Filbert Five honoree

 

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame offers its condolences to the family of Cassville businessman Terry DeGraffenreid, who passed away on Sunday. He was 65.

The Hall of Fame recognized Terry and his brothers as part of the Filbert Five in November 2011 for their standout basketball careers.

Six DeGraffenreid brothers graduated over a 12-year span.

Oldest brother Kelly, a forward, graduated in 1962, two years after helping the Bolivar Liberators win the Class M state championship. Terry and his twin brother Jerry, a 6-foot-2 forward, played four years and graduated in 1969. A year later, Rick graduated and earned a scholarship to the University of Oklahoma. Randy also was standout before graduation in 1970. Terry went on to play basketball at Southwest Baptist University and eventually became a Shelter Insurance agent in Cassville. Ron DeGraffenreid, a guard, graduated in 1965.

Terry is survived by his wife, Brenda (Keys) Brattin; two daughters, Terry Lynn DeGraffenreid Brattin and her husband Mike of Rocky Comfort, and Laura Simac and her husband Jason of Madison, Wis.; a stepson, Rob Brattin and his wife Taylor of Wheaton; four brothers, Kelly and his wife Donna of Monett, Jerry and his wife Marian of Forsyth, Rick and his wife Alexis of Ava, and Randy and his wife Linda of Pilot Point, Texas; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy, and a brother, Dr. Ron DeGraffenreid.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Cassville Family Life Center under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Fohn Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Mercy Hospital in memory of Terry.
